So many times in life, it's easier to have "the grass is always greener on the other side" mentality. It's that attitude where you always want something other than what you have, commonly known as discontentment. For me, I would rather adopt the attitude of wanting to be content, and content with what God's given me. And lately, it's even more than that. I want to be thankful for what God gives, no matter the circumstance.
I'm reading this book, One Thousand Gifts, by Ann Voskamp. The idea behind it, is a dare to live fully, right where you are. Ann explores this by making a list of one thousand things that she is thankful for.
Now I'll be honest... I don't think I've ever written a list of one thousand of anything. But, challenged by this book, I am working on my list. And the more I write, the more I think about everything that God has given me, and all the ways that God loves me, the more I find an attitude of thankfulness, and an attitude of contentment.
All that being said, how are you doing today? Are you struggling with discontentment with people or circumstances? Or are you fully living right where you are... fully living a life of thanksgiving? If you need help with the later, I challenge you to start your list. Start writing things that you are thankful for. Big things, little things... write them all down. And hopefully you will find blessings and contentment in all that you are doing.
And as for me? What am I thankful for today?
130. An afternoon at the beach with friends.
131. Sea glass. Hard to find, but when you do, you get that feeling of accomplishing something great.
131. Warmish sand between my toes.
132. Ending the afternoon with a small treat from the Beach Bakery. Seriously, I have a problem :)
