Aunt Karen is here. And we have loved hanging out with her these past few days. Aunt Karen is Jeremy's Mom's sister and she was out in Philedelphia doing a 60 mile Susan F. Komen 3 Day Walk. After dominating the race, she graciously decided to come up for a few days to visit us. She's pretty phenomenal.
On Tuesday, she spent the day in the city. Jeremy went in to meet her and show her the sites. Unfortunately, while exiting the train to slippery pavement, she became a victim of the dreaded "gap." She scraped up her entire shin, and got some pretty remarkable bruises on her knee. Fortunately, it didn't hold her back too much from enjoying a day in Manhattan.
The kids have been super excited to have Aunt Karen here.
They are huge fans of visitors, especially ones that are family. Hint, Hint to all of our family out there... Feel free to come and visit us on our great East Coast any time.
Today, under the advisement of my dear friend Laura, who is a great knitting connoisseur, we took a drive up to Port Jefferson to visit this darling store aptly named The Knitting Cove. I'm not so much of a knitter, but Aunt Karen is and she was happy to find some pretty awesome knitting treasures.
We enjoyed a beautiful afternoon walking around Port Jefferson. Both of our children were born there, and it's an awesome town that we have not enjoyed as much as we should have.
The highlight of the trip for me was visiting an awesome cheese shop called C'est Cheese. We stopped in because it looked cool from the outside and for the most part, I'm a fan of cheese. After talking "cheese" to a friendly employee, I bought a delicious chunk of Delice de Courgogne and a few bags of crostini to go with it. We also ended up eating lunch there and it instantly became one of my favorite new places to eat. Pictured below was the water that came with my meal. Seriously, it was the most fun water I've ever gotten from a restaurant and it didn't cost a thing.
Aunt Karen had fancy and delicious pumpkin spiced soup and I ate, possibly devoured if I'm being honest, the most delicious quiche that I've ever tasted. The food was absolutely amazing. If you're ever in the area, I highly, highly recommend that you check out this wonderful place.
We had a wonderful afternoon in Port Jefferson. On a side note, the photo credit to the sweet picture below totally goes to my amazing husband. He's slowly easing into the world of photography and I could not be more excited. He has an unique eye for capturing life's details in a fresh and interesting way. I'm super proud of him and can't wait to see him continue to be amazing when it comes to photography.
