Today has been phenomenal. I woke up to pancake breakfast made by my most favorite people on earth. I joined a gym and did my first "Fit Camp" class. I had the best lunch at the Pearl with some amazing friends. I savored some delicious chocolate covered fruit dropped off by a wonderful friend and came home to two dozen red roses bought for me by my best friend and the love of my life. I hung out with 20 amazing kids at Pioneer Clubs. We played outside and I read them the book, "You are Special," which is one of the greatest stories ever. And then I ended the night with family birthday dinner at Fridays and fun shopping at Target. It was a fantastic way to celebrate 31 years of life.
Speaking of thirty one, I thought I would make a list of thirty one things that I've learned in the last thirty one years. Here it goes, in no particular order.
- I've learned that life should be lived to the fullest (John 10:10).
- I've learned that ice cream makes things better. Ice cream with sprinkles? Better than better.
- I've learned that friends will come and go, but your family is forever.
- I've learned that marriage and parenting are two of the most challenging things that you can ever do in life.
- I've also learned that marriage and parenting are two of the most rewarding things that you can ever do in life.
- I've learned to enjoy summers full of beach days, even if you have house cleaning to do, because according to my friend Dawn, you can always clean in the winter. This winter, when there wasn't fun in the sun, I realized that what she said was totally true.
- I've learned that good relationships are as important and as necessary as breathing is.
- I've learned the weight of bitterness, the danger of anger and the power of forgiveness.
- I've learned that the plastic things on the end of shoelaces are called aglets.
- I've learned who Colin Cowherd is.
- I've learned that you can see evidence of God and His goodness in everything.
- I've learned that sometimes you can save an electronic device that has gone through the washing machine with a bowl of rice. And sometimes you can't.
- I've learned that no matter how bad things are, they will eventually get better.
- I've learned that there are twice as many kangaroos in Australia as there are people.
- I've learned to appreciate a good fish taco.
- I've learned that my value comes from who I am in Christ.
- I've learned that I personally enjoy manual labor.
- I've learned that a buffalo chicken slice and 6 garlic knots from Michaelangelos is a perfectly suitable meal for your awesome husband and in a pinch, it's one of those meals that he will eat twice in a week without complaining.
- I've learned that I don't have to worry about anything, but that I can pray about everything and that God will bring peace, even when it doesn't seem possible (Philippians 4:4-8).
- I've learned thanks to Facebook, on the day you're born, your current friends, your past friends and people that you're not even sure you know will wish you a Happy Birthday.
- I've learned that the grass is not always greener on the other side, but that you can be the change that you want to see in the world.
- I've learned that Skype is the next best thing to being there in person.
- I've learned that sisters who were enemies in high school can be best friends in adulthood.
- I've learned that I married my best friend and that together we made some pretty phenomenal children. Not to brag, it's just true.
- I've learned that we were never meant to go through this life alone.
- I've learned that laughter really is the best medicine.
- I've learned that the man I married is super good at playing basketball.
- I've learned that love covers a multitude of wrongs (Proverbs 10:12).
- I've learned that writing a list of 31 one things takes awhile.
- I've learned that I am extremely, extremely blessed in this life.
- I've learned that I am so very thankful that God has given me a plan and a purpose.
A huge thanks to all of the love and birthday wishes sent from family and friends today.
