Today I walked this little cutie over to the big school for her Kindergarten Screening.
We stopped for a moment to capture this moment... Our five year old, strong, confident and ready to take on this new chapter of life called school.
When they took her in for the screening, I sat down at the table next to this box of crayons and wondered how it could be that these years have flown by so quickly? Because really, it does just seem like yesterday that we took that beautiful baby girl home from the hospital. It seems like yesterday that she gave us her first sweet smile. What happened to the days we anxiously awaited her first steps? Each and every new milestone brought cheers and celebrations, but they also brought that slight wistfulness for days gone by.
Thankfully, before the tears started, I got distracted by this picture (and it's many copies), that was also on the table next to the crayons. I personally found it a bit strange, but it was a good distraction from all of the deep, wistful thoughts that had been flowing throughout my mind.
And after time had passed, I got up from that table, and wandered over to see how the screening was going. And to my delight, I got a quick glimpse of our Ellee girl, being a rock star answering questions with enthusiasm.
And then it was done. And she told me that her favorite part was when she got to hop on one foot and skip in the room. She told me that she saw one of her buddies from her preschool too. And she told me that she knew most of the letters but she wasn't sure how old her brother was (which was funny to me, because sometimes I forget how old he is too). She wasn't a fan of the hearing test, because they put these things on her head and then made her raise her hand when she hear a sound. But she was pretty excited about getting some stickers and all in all it sounded like everything went really well.
Once again, I am so thankful for the amazing elementary that my kids will both be attending this fall. The teachers, staff and administration do such a wonderful job of caring for the kids and giving them a top notch education. Since we entrust this school with the lives of our kids, it is so good to know that they are being well cared for.
