An $11 Morning

So my goal was to start off the weekend with my Spin class this morning.  But when the kids and I rolled into the gym to see an incredibly full parking lot at 9:25am, I realized that it probably wasn't going to happen.  I walked in and sighed sadly when I saw that every bike was taken.  So, I decided to console myself on the way home by checking out the many garage sales that were going on today.

The first stop was successful.  In an aquarium full of hermit crab paraphernalia, I found a heat lamp that we'll need this fall and winter for our hermit crabs.  I also made a friend who happens to go to the same gym as I do.  She was sweet and charged me only $3 for the lamp.

The kids and I then proceeded to do this sort of neon sign scavenger hunt for other garage and yard sales.  I learned a few things as we drove around.  I learned that some people put yard signs up at other times, and then forget to take them down, so that other people like me follow them and then sadly realize that there is no sale.  I also learned that people's definition of "Huge Yard Sale" can be pretty subjective.  Especially when the so called "Huge Yard Sale" consists of two folding tables of really random stuff.  Thankfully, over the course of the morning, I found a few other treasures.

The water bottles were Rubbermaid and brand new and 50 cents each.  We used them today for Christian's soccer game and they were perfect.  The Mason jars were $1.00 each and so cute and rustic.  My goal is to use them to make something similar to this awesome project that I found on Pinterest.

For the record and for everyone who is "following" me on Pinterest, I still for the life of me have no idea what I'm supposed to do with Pinterest and rarely use it (I think that I saw this idea through someone's Pinterest, but it was on Facebook).  I just thought I should give a disclaimer, since it seems like every day I get emails telling me that people are following me on Pinterest, and I always inwardly cringe.  Moving along, at one of the sales, a sweet woman offered this Ninjago card album to Christian... for free.  It absolutely made his day and he was so incredibly excited about it.

My most fun find of the day was by far this darling little suitcase.  I picked it up at a sale and when I saw the $1.00 sticker on it, I figured it was a done deal.

I'm pretty sure that I will use it for a fun photography prop.

So, technically I spent $8 on my garage sale treasures of the day.  Two of the garage sales also had lemonade and cookie stands, so we spent another $3 supporting the local adorable children of the neighborhood.  All in all, $11.00 was money well spent for a morning of garage sale treasure hunting and yummy treats.
