This week has been pretty weird. Though incredibly thankful that we came safe and sound through the storm it's been muted by the fact that so many on Long Island and the East Coast are dealing with tragedies, great and small. Driving around, it's easy to see the affects of the hurricane. Also, our kids have been out of school all week, so each day has had a laid back feel to it, overshadowed by questions of when life will return to a more normal routine.
All that being said, with multiple closings changing what would have been a routine Wednesday for us, we answered a last minute call to join friends for the afternoon to go trick or treating. We brought this sweet princess with us...
And her brother the ninja.
We joined up with a few friends from church and had a wonderful time.
Ah, I love friends from church.
I also love the traditional K and C picture that we get each year. My how they've grown.
Though a seemingly motley crue, behind those costumes were some amazing kids.
Their smiles made the afternoon quite worth while.
And on a memorable note, you know trick or treating came at the end of a hurricane, when you pass by houses whose front yards unfortunately are newly defined by their fallen trees. The sweet family at this address was very kind to our group and thankfully seemed to be okay, all things considered.
This is a picture of the beautiful Moms and the sweet Grandma who were responsible for our adventurous group. They faithfully followed close by, snapping pictures and calling out reminders to say "thank you" as we walked around to each home.
My friend Laura was super fun, dressing up all fancy and hilariously opening her huge fur coat to reveal a string of watches for sale. She is so awesome and so fun and I am very thankful to have her and her watches.
All in all, it was a sweet afternoon.
Our kids enjoyed a nice variety of treats.
My personal favorite was this little box of goodness. My Mom blacklisted Nerds and we were not allowed to have them growing up. She claimed that they made a terrible mess (which was true... but so sad for little 8 year old me). Therefore, in my adulthood, I've subconsciously declared them the treat of all treats, and love to enjoy them when I can.
Note: I thought I should add this picture in, because whereas of course, I mostly post wonderful pics of our beautiful children, it should be known that behind some of those shots of perfection, lies faces like this and pleas of "Mom, I don't want you to take another picture!" Here's to raw reality, right?
After a concise hour of treat hunting and lots of running between houses, the kids stopped by Daddy's office to check out their loot. They both faired pretty well, and I'm thankful for a sweet afternoon with great friends and great memories.
