Stream of Consciousness... and a New Project

I love a good weekend.

This morning, I slept in and I love sleeping in.  Mostly because for a good portion of the past 5 years, I haven't been able to, due to life's busyness and the fact that we've had young children who need quality attention in the morning.  Apparently though, in the Herr home, we've turned a corner.  My wonderful children are now of an age where they can get themselves up and entertain themselves somewhat quietly, hence making it a bit easier to sleep in.  So, that's what I did this morning.

The rest of the day has consisted of a half-hearted effort to catch up on laundry, and a good amount of football watching.  I'm not a huge fan of football watching, which is probably why Jer invited a few friends over, but I am a huge fan of the fun food that comes with some serious football watching playoff games.  So, to sum it up, laundry, football and fun food.  Not a bad day at all.

As I'm not really paying much attention to the games, I have been taking some time to think about a new project that I have coming up.

First off, a little story.

For the past 8 or so years, we've lived in a tiny little Long Island town called Eastport.

Eastport is fun in the winter.

Fun in the Spring.

Fun in the Summer.

And fun in the Fall.

Eastport only has two stoplights, but it throws a pretty awesome Memorial Day celebration.

Our son attends the elementary school school in Eastport

And my husband plays basketball at Open Gym at the Elementary School on Tuesday nights.

We spend a good amount of our time serving in ministry at Eastport Bible Church.
We love this church and the families that are involved there.

I love the main street area of Eastport.  It's small, but filled with all sorts of character.  I've shot many of my photography sessions around the businesses that are located there.

Which brings me to my New Project.  This week, and in the weeks to come, I will be featuring some of the different businesses that are located in Eastport on my blog.  I have this thing with supporting small businesses... but I also have this thing with seeing small businesses, but not taking the time to check them out.  Case in point, there is a fantastic candy shop in a town nearby, that I drove by for 7 years.  I always thought it looked like a cool place to check out, but I just never did.  When I finally stopped by this past year, I realized that it was an incredible store, and now I stop in much more.

That being said, as a resident and big supporter of this sweet little town that I live in, I thought I would dedicate some time in the coming weeks to check out the businesses of Eastport.  I want to share about them here, in hopes that we can get to know a little more about those fun shops that we pass every day.  We'll see how things go, but I would love to have you join me as I check out some of the hidden gems of our wonderful little town.
