I'm not a makeup person. I've always known this, and it's been pointed at different points in my life, like the time I bought $80 dollars worth of makeup at the mall, only to have my sweet husband point out that I'm not really a makeup person, to which I agreed, and then sheepishly returned all of the makeup that I really did not need. Then there was that time that Ellee saw a woman in a Cover Girl advertisement at Rite Aid, then turned to me and said, "You're not fancy, like that woman... right Mom?"
So yeah. Not much of a makeup person at all. Which will make this blog post seem a bit strange if it weren't for the fact that while I'm not a makeup person, I'm a huge fan of mail, and a huge fan of sample sized treasures. This is where Birchbox has come in to my life.
I read about Birchbox last month on Hip2Save. Basically, it's this genius company that realized that while we women love our perfumes and makeups and beauty products, it's sometimes a challenge to find the things that we will really love. Time and money is wasted by women all over the country as they search for the products that will fit them and their specific needs. So, Birchbox came up with the idea, of mailing out nice sized samples of different products every month that people could try, before they decided if they would want to buy.
There is a fee of $10 a month to subscribe to Birchbox, which includes shipping. Again, not being a make-up person, but a huge fan of getting fun things in the mail, I decided to try it out. Since I received this month's box today, I thought I would share what I received. Each month, you will receive 4-5 samples of various beauty products. This month's box also included a cute magnet.
The first sample in my box was a vial of Juicy Couture perfume. If you're wondering what it smelled like, well, the packaging summed that up for you. Unfortunately, Jer is not a fan of perfume at all, so I'll have to find someone who has been wanting to smell like "Couture" to give the sample to.
Next, there was this LARABAR. I've never tried one before, but I'm pretty much a fan of anything that boasts Peanut Butter and Chocolate Chips, so I'm sure it will be good.
The box also contained this Hypoallergenic Eye Serum. It promises "renewing, regenerating, rebuilding, revitalizing & more therapy." Let's be honest, don't we all need a little bit of those?
Next, this night cream. Which I'm excited to try out, as it is somewhat winter here and it seems like you can always use a little extra moisturization in the winter months. And even though my computer is telling me that moisturization is not a word, it seems to me to make the most sense so I'm leaving it.
The last item in my box was this cute little bottle of purplish nail polish. Ellee and I will certainly have a mani-pedi night with this fun color.
So, there you have it. Thus far, I've been pleasantly surprised with the fun things that I've received from my Birchbox subscription. Granted, it's not for everyone... and is somewhat borderline not really for people like me. But then again, it is. Because it's the little things in life that you do to bring a little happiness, that build up to a whole life of happy. And getting fun things in the mail makes me happy, so I thought I'd share, in case it's something that might make you happy too.
