Awhile ago, my Mom told me that she had always wanted to see a Broadway play. So, when we found out that they were coming to visit, I did a little research and we decided to see Mary Poppins while she was here.
Yesterday afternoon, we took the train in to the city.
I took her to Chipotle, because it's my absolute favorite restaurant that I never get to go too, because we don't have one close to us. We all have one of those, right?
We ordered sodas (or "pops" as my Midwest Mom calls them), chips and salsa and chicken burritos, stuffed with all sorts of deliciousness. It tasted as amazing as I had hoped it would.
Then, we walked a few blocks into Times Square to find our theater. We walked passed Morgan Freeman, (the wax version) and a guy who would let you pay him to take pictures with his giant white pet rat. It was busy and humid and awesome.
We took this picture outside of the theater. And I was a little bummed, that I completely missed the Mary Poppins sign. Oh well, you win some, you lose some.
The actual show, was amazing. I was absolutely captivated. The actors, the stage, the singing and dancing was all top notch. It was worth every penny (and if you've ever paid for a Broadway show, you know it takes quite a few). I so badly wanted to take lots of pictures, but followed the rules and only took one shot of the opening screen. There is no way that I could have captured the sheer amazingness that was this Broadway show on a tiny little point and shoot anyways.
My mom and I both had a wonderful time. She told me that she's hooked now and will want to see one every time she comes to visit. And I was totally okay with that.
Afterwards, we took a quick walk to check out Times Square.
And then headed back to Penn Station, where we enjoyed strawberry and peach smoothies, because catching our train back.
If you are ever able too, I would highly recommend checking out a Broadway show. It is such a special experience. This was my third as I saw Phantom of the Opera when I was in high school and Beauty and the Beast on my first anniversary. It is such a special experience and being in New York, we are close to some of the most amazing shows in the country.
