Toys Don't Have Cliques

When I went to say goodnight to our Ellee girl, I happened upon this sweet scene.  It was one of those moments that you want to lock away and remember forever.  Since starting Kindergarten, our Ellee is changing ever so slightly.  She has gained a little more confidence and grown more bold.  Case in point, usually in the mornings, we walk her over the the school and down the hall to her class.  Today, upon seeing one of her classmates, she turned to me, and said, "It's okay Mom.  You can stay here.  I'm just going to walk to my class with Payton."  And she did.  And I was a proud Mama.

That being said, tonight, it made my heart soar when I walked in and saw her "reading" all teacher-style (pictures pointed out) to her toys.

Speaking of toys, it's funny how when you're little, your toys don't have cliques.  The American Girl doll is perfectly happy hanging with the Pink Bear from Hershey Park and the stuffed cow with the big smile.  They're all friends, and don't mind their differences.  Being a huge advocate of not-minding differences, it was a good reminder for me, for all of us.

And this lovely girl did such a careful job of lining her toys all up and tucking them safely in.  She then spent the next ten minutes teaching them the importance of colors and owning the things that make you special, compliments of Leo Lionni's book, A Color of His Own.

I'm so thankful for our sweet girl and this sweet memory and thought I'd share it with you all tonight.
