Today was amazing, because today we got to take a trip into the city to see this amazing guy! Last Friday our friend Zack underwent a major surgery at Memorial Sloan-Kettering to remove a cancerous tumor from his lung. Prior to his surgery, Zack underwent four rounds of chemo to help to shrink the tumor. Needless to say, he's been through a lot these past few months. I shared posts on Facebook pages and communities and it was so encouraging to see the love and prayers that were sent out for Zack and his incredible family.
Our trip began early this morning. We dropped our kids off to a friend who graciously offered to bring them to school. Then Jer and I caught a train out of Ronkonkoma and headed in to the city. We had fun entertaining ourselves on the way with a few fun games of Monopoly. Thank you technology for making this not only possible, but a tad more fun.
It was good to arrive at Penn Station.
It was good to see the hustle and bustle of normal city life after a pretty crazy week post hurricane.
From Penn Station, we took the subway over to Grand Central and while walking up to the street level came upon this amazing little market.
At this market, I bought by far the most delicious croissant that I have ever eaten.
From Grand Central, we walked two miles to get to to the hospital.
It was a nice brisk day and there were so many fun sights to see.
The city is so incredible and beautiful and it was good to spend a nice fall morning taking it all in.
Side Note: I thought that this was a fun, yet unlikely group of friends.
I was pretty excited when we reached this amazing building. For me, there is something quite awe inspiring about walking into a building that houses such medical greatness. On the way up to see Zack, we passed doctors and nurses and other staff members and everyone just seems to be so incredibly kind and smart and wonderful and friendly.
I was overjoyed when we walked into Zack's room to see him, sitting up, in great spirits and doing incredibly well. We had a wonderful visit with him and his amazing parents. And throughout our visit, we got to see and hear quite a few nurses and a doctor just affirm their happiness with how well Zack is doing and how well he is healing.
We absolutely praise God for His goodness in seeing Zack through this challenging time. We praise Him for bringing the right doctors and nurses into Zack's treatments. We praise God for the amazing doctor who performed a successful surgery to remove Zack's tumor. And we praise God for Zack's healing and recovery. Zack will remain in the hospital through this week, and Lord willing will return home soon to continue to heal and recover.
Leaving the city after our visit, it was this verse that came to mind as I thanked God for an incredible day.
Thank you so much for the thoughts and prayers that you have given to help Zack and his family throughout this week. Please continue to pray for them and that Zack would be able to remain healthy and strong as he lives a great life, bringing glory to God in all that he does!
This is poignant and beautiful. I'm sure your presence in Zack's life is an inexplicable blessing.
