I can only do so much...

When Ellee was four, I remember asking her to carry a pile of books up to her room.  In an exasperated voice, she informed me, "Mom... I can ONLY do so much, because I ONLY have two hands, and I DON'T have a tail."

I'm pretty sure this comment came from her love of watching Curious George at that age.  As funny as her statement was, it's something that has stuck with me throughout the years.

Life is busy.  My life is busy, and I'm sure yours is too.  And often times, I feel exactly like my sweet daughter did that day.  I feel that I can ONLY do so much.  There are so many pressures in life and it's easy to become overwhelmed at the sight of them.  It's easy to let feelings of inadequacy in along with the inevitable discouragement that follows closely behind during times like these.

However, instead of living in that frustrating state of being, I'm ready to accept and embrace the truth of the fact that I CAN only do so much.  And for me, being a follower of Jesus and all, the ONLY things that I need to do each day, are the things that fit into God's perfect plan for my life.  Simple as that.

Well, kind of.  Granted, I know this will be easier said than done.  But with Christmas and the Holidays approaching, I'm ready to accept the simple truths of life.  I can only do so much.  And I'm okay with that.  I too, only have two hands and with God's help and strength, I'll get the important things done, and not worry about the rest.
