We got a lot of snow last night. It was incredibly beautiful to look at, but quite overwhelming to deal with. Ellee and Christian were able to bundle up and play outside for a bit. And in a wonderful turn of events, our amazing next door neighbor was oh so kind enough to plow out our driveway.
I worked for a few hours this afternoon, to diligently shovel a path from our house to the driveway. It was pretty hard work. There was a nice ten inches of soft snow, but then a pretty intense eight inches of heavy and icy snow underneath. Needless to say, I was pretty tired when I finished. I still have a two and a half foot drift to work through before I can get to the driveway and some work to do out by the road, but I figured I'd save that for tomorrow.
By the time that I finished, some kind truck had come by with a plow and plowed out our road.
Growing up in Michigan, I've certainly been around my share of snow, but it was pretty incredible to think that we got all of this overnight. Montauk Highway still looked like this around five and it made me wonder how long it will be before the roads are clear and safe for driving.
One of the amazing men in our church was working on the parking lot this evening as well. Christian and I walked over earlier to grab a sled from Jer's office and it was pretty hard work, walking through a foot and a half of snow to get there. Our church actually cancelled morning services tomorrow but we will be having our annual Spaghetti Supper and Breakaway youth service in the evening, so we are praying that conditions will be much better tomorrow night. It will be good to see everyone then.
So that was a few glimpses from our snow day. We were thankful that we didn't lose power and also for everyone who worked hard today to plow our streets and get things back to normal.
