Exhausted, but Thankful

It's 11:06pm.  I'm home, and I'm exhausted.  Exhausted, but so very thankful.  Thankful, and blessed.

I posted earlier from the hospital, but thought I would share a few random pictures that I took on the little camera throughout the day.  This first one shows what I think is a bit of a miracle.  Somehow, over the course of this insanely active weekend, the swelling in Jer's ankle actually went down a bit.  When Dr. Gamez unwrapped it, he commented on the fact that it showed that it was well elevated, as evidenced by less swelling and the ugly bruise up by Jer's knee.

I was so relived to hear this.  As much as I would like to report that Jer stayed put all weekend, keeping his ankle perfectly elevated, the reality was a bit different.  God blessed him with energy and strength and the knee scooter, of course.  And while it was incredible to have him be such a big part of our Breakaway weekend, as his loving wife, I was a bit concerned.  Thankfully, God kept him and his ankle quite safe.  This is a shot from the opposite side.  While his ankle was less swollen, his poor foot did not fare quite as well.

During Jer's surgery, I tackled my daily Bible reading.  I really took in this passage, and was encouraged by the emphasis on not being afraid, but knowing that God is with us.  It was the perfect time to hear these words.  When Dr. Gamez came out of surgery with a positive report, I'm thankful for the encouragement that I received and the fact that I replaced the worry that I usually carry with complete trust in knowing that God was carrying me through.

After visiting Jer briefly in the recovery room, I stepped out to grab a quick lunch.  Our hospital is in Port Jefferson, which has all kinds of cool shops, including the one I ate at.  The smoothie was delicious, and as I mentioned before, the warm brie and pear sandwich totally hit the spot.

Once I returned to the hospital, I was able to spend the entire afternoon into the evening with Jer in a small recovery room.  I was pretty alarmed when my first glimpse of his newly bandaged foot revealed that his toes were green, but upon inquiring with the nurse was told that it was merely the antiseptic that they used in the surgery.  I was pretty relieved to hear this.

Jer spent a lot of time resting.  When he was awake, I did my best to tend to his every need.  Later in the afternoon, when his appetite returned, I made a run to the snack machine.  I picked him up a bag of Cheezit crackers and got these tasty treats for myself.  They were pretty good, despite the name.

We had a nice surprise this evening, when Pastor Charley and Jan and our friends Mike and Debbie stopped by for a quick visit.  Jer was out cold for most of it, but woke up at the end to check in with Pastor Charley.  It was very kind of them to come up and visit and was a blessing to our afternoon.  Jer finally was moved down to a regular room around 6:30pm.  We bought this card so that he could watch TV, and it kind of made me wonder what the hospitals do with all of the money that they take in, that they would have to charge for television service.  Seeing as which they had free wi-fi, I figured I should definitely not complain.

It was difficult to leave tonight, but it was good to know that hopefully Jer would get a good night's rest.  I'm definitely looking forward to driving back tomorrow to pick him up and bring him home.  Again, we just wanted to thank everyone for their love and prayers.  We know that God has worked throughout this accident and it's been a huge encouragement to our hearts.

  1. So glad that Jeremy gets to come home today and begin the recovery process. I will keep praying for him, you and the kids through all of it.
