After getting to bed around 12:44am, Jer and I woke up this morning around 5:45am. We got ready and said goodbye to Uncle Justin who was able to get Christian and Ellee off to school before he had to leave for Boston.
We arrived at the hospital right on our scheduled time of 7:00am. We talked and prayed while old episodes of Boy Meets World played in the background, and a flurry of doctors and nurses came in to prep Jer for the surgery. Towards the end, Dr. Gamez came in to check Jer's ankle and answer our last minute questions, which consisted of "How long will the surgery be?" (1 1/2 hours) and "How are YOU feeling, Dr. Gamez?" (Just fine, and a laugh).
It was a bit tough when the nurse wheeled Jer away to the operating room, but I had this beautiful peace, knowing that he was in the good hands of our doctor, and the greater hands of the Great Physician. I walked out to the waiting room, called my Mom, and read my Bible. Then, I'm pretty sure that I dozed off and on for the next hour and a half.
Dr. Gamez came out around 10:30am to let me know that my husband was well and that the surgery went just fine. I got to run back to see Jer briefly at 11:30am, and it was just so good to see him. He was pretty tired, but gave me a small smile and whispered that he loved me. Sigh. It was a huge relief, to have the surgery done and to know that his ankle will finally begin to heal.
I got the go ahead to run out and grab lunch, so I did. I called a few people to share the good news and have a nice smoothie and warm pear and Brie sandwich at the Tiger Lily Cafe. I'm now back at the hospital waiting patiently to go and sit with Jer when he gets to a room.
Thank you all so much for your thoughts and prayers! I look forward to sharing more updates, but for now, all is well, for which I am so thankful for.
